Taye Diggs (Scott L.
Diggs) was born on January 2, 1971, in New Jersey, USA. He is an American actor known for his work in theater, film, and television. Diggs grew up in Rochester, New York, the son of Marcia, a teacher and actress, and Jeffries Diggs.
He attended the School of Arts and was the oldest of five children in his family, with two brothers and two sisters.
Diggs earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in musical theater from Syracuse University. He performed multiple times at the popular Lakes Region summer theater in Meredith, New Hampshire.
His Broadway debut came in 1994 when he joined the award-winning musical "Carousel." In 1996, he had the opportunity to make a name for himself as the despicable landlord Benny in the Broadway musical "Rent," which won a Tony Award and a Pulitzer Prize.
